Kris' Campaign Log Connor borrows a horse from Sebastian and rides for HelenŐs shadow. Coll asks Sebastian for a trump of Dirk. Sebastian initially refuses, and tells Coll that he can just trump to Amber and talk to Dirk in person. Coll explains that he has vowed not to return to Amber until the question of his status is resolved, but that he has information for Dirk. After trying unsuccessfully to get Coll to give him the information, Sebastian relents and loans Coll the trump. Coll trumps to Lin Daggoth and trumps Jove. Jove has run into Vale and is filling her in on recent events. He takes CollŐs trump call and tells him of his encounter with Waldhiem. At a Chaos function, Sebastian runs into Caine, and they discuss the rumors of a failed attempt to rescue Garth. Sebastian insults the fashion sense of some Chaos functionary named Thar. Thar responds by slashing his hand, slapping Sebastian across the face, and challenging him to a duel. Sebastian is informed that he has 24 hours to choose either the method of the duel, or the penalty. Waldhiem visits Aern, who gives him some advice. He is informed of the rescue attempt and alters the story to say that it was an assassination attempt on Garth by his Chaos allies. Waldhiem confronts Garth and asks him if Marik of House Barimen was behind the assassination attempt. Garth tells him that he can neither confirm nor deny it. Satisfied with this answer, Waldhiem leaves. Jove asks Vale for a trump of Julian. Vale says she doesnŐt have one, but offers him SebastianŐs. Jove uses it to ask Sebastian to trump Julian and relay JoveŐs request to talk to him. After some bickering, Sebastian agrees. Vale leaves, and shortly afterwards Jove is attacked by crossbowmen. While the men Connor left behind defend him, Jove runs and hides. From the bushes, Jove hears his guards die, one by one, and then silence. He finally steps out from cover to find that Vale has killed the remaining attackers, who appear to be from Chaos. Vale orders Jove to stay out of her Sky Castle and leaves. Jove finds a nearby cave and meditates. Coll trumps Dirk and asks if Random can talk to him at some point. He also mentions that Jove wants to talk to Julian. Connor returns to Castle Amber and comes across two Amber guards being attacked by six Chaos guards. Connor manages to kill one of them, but he is distracted by an incoming trump call and cut with a poisoned sword. He retreats and takes the trump call, hoping for some assistance, but is psychically attacked through the call instead. He attempts to fight off the attack, but is stabbed, through the contact, in the chest with a poisoned dagger. As the world begins to fade out, he sees more Amber guards arriving on the scene. He wakes up in a bed and is briefed by Baron Smeemia (the director of protocol) on events after he lost consciousness. The Chaos attackers appear to be from House Hendrake, while the dagger that was used to stab Connor through the trump contact is from House Sowell. As far as anyone can tell, all the attackers did was break into the library and steal several trump decks. Smeemia thinks that all of the decks were recovered, but there's no way to be sure. Waldhiem talks with Aern about the final details of his plan to return Garth to Amber. Garth will be shapeshifted to look like Hecuba, while a dupe will be shapeshifted to look like Garth and murdered. Assassins wearing the garb of House Barimen will be blamed for his death. Waldhiem will travel to Amber with "Hecuba" to meet with Random, at which point Garth will be turned over to him. After getting Garth's word that he won't try to escape until he is turned over to Random, Waldhiem removes Garth's bonds. He shapeshifts Garth to look like Hecuba and the dupe to look like Garth. Waldhiem and "Hecuba" set off for Amber. Some time later, Waldhiem receives word that Garth has been assassinated. Sebastian and Caine learn of Garth's assassination and decide to accompany the body back to Amber. Connor trumps to Ygg and trumps Sebastian from there. He asks if he can recover from his injuries in Bolthole. Sebastian agrees and gives him a trump of Bolthole. He also notifies his guards of Connor's imminent arrival, so they won't attack him. Sebastian decides to pick the method of combat for his duel, and chooses blades. Thar chooses the 100 year death as the penalty. Waldhiem is informed of the upcoming fight by Lady Xed, who asks if he wants to return to watch it. Waldhiem declines and continues towards Amber. Sebastian wins the fight without too much trouble, despite the superior strength of his opponent. He retires to Bolthole to have his various cuts attended to and fills Connor in about the duel. Coll trumps Jove and tells him that he relayed Jove's message. Jove asks to come through to Coll in Lin Daggoth. Coll brings him through, and reveals that his trumps of Sebastian, Amber and Chaos are missing. Jove spends some time practicing his demon form (a kind of gooey blob). Later on, he asks Coll to design a spell to transport him to Chaos. Coll tells him that it's dangerous to transport through shadow, but Jove doesn't seem to care. Waldhiem reaches Amber and requests an audience with Random. Once they are alone, he reveals that Hecuba is really Garth, and shapeshifts Garth back to his own form. Random lectures Garth about the assassination attempt. Garth explains that he only did it to avenge the insult that Park gave to Amber when he set Jove up to be rejected in his attempt to court Lady Xed. Random reveals that he was the one who asked Park to reject Jove. Random asks Waldhiem to disguise Garth as another Amberite. They eventually settle on Oliver, over Garth's objections, since Waldhiem knows Oliver's psyche the best. The end result looks, sounds and even feels psychically like Oliver. Garth finds that unless he concentrates, he reacts to situations the way Oliver would. He is told that he will be able to receive trump calls intended for Oliver, but not those intended for Garth. Waldhiem trumps the real Hecuba through to Amber and they leave. Coll finishes his transportation spell. He uses another spell to disguise Jove as his aid, Kirith, and transports Jove to House Barimen. Upon his appearance, Jove is beaten by the guards and kicked out of the courtyard. He receives a trump call from Coll and pulls him through. Coll tells the guards that they have information about Jove for Suhey. They are told that Suhey is unavailable for the next 48 hours, so they find a hotel and wait. After several hours pass, they are informed by the manager that Suhey is ready to see them. Random, Vialle, Caine, Flora, Llewella, Martin, Sebastian, Avery, Garth (as Oliver) and Allyra attend Garth's funeral. Shortly before it begins, Jove (still disguised as Kirith) and Coll try to trump Garth, and fail. They then trump Oliver, who brings them through to the funeral. In a move that surprises everyone present, Sebastian does the eulogy for Garth. His main theme seems to be that deep down inside, he and Garth were very much alike. His reasons for eulogizing his hated cousin soon become obvious as he comforts the upset Allyra. Oliver leaves as soon as the funeral is finished and goes to the stables to get a horse. Coll introduces Kirith and Clarissa to Sebastian. Sebastian asks Coll why he brought a pet with him, referring to Kirith. Coll replies that if Sebastian insults him again, he will kill him. Coll and Kirith trump Oliver. Kirith tries to psychically contact Oliver, but he refuses. Coll offers his thanks for Oliver's assistance in bringing him to the funeral and his condolences over Garth's death. Oliver accepts the thanks and rides off into shadow. Kirith follows him, and when Oliver notices, he waits for her to catch up and yells at her. He then trumps Coll, who tells him to do whatever he wants with her. Oliver tells her to stop following him or suffer the consequences and rides off again. Sebastian, suspicious of both Oliver and Kirith, uses his trump skills to track Kirith. Jove, sensing that Sebastian is doing this, starts shifting forms every time he feels Sebastian determine his location. They play this game of cat and mouse for a while. Eventually, Sebastian arrives at a bar in a seedy section of town. Jove, now disguised as a burly man-at-arms, offers Sebastian a drink, and asks what he must do to join Sebastian's elite guards. Oliver, having reached the shadows near Arden, trumps Jove, to find out how he's doing. Jove excuses himself goes into the bathroom to take the call. While he's in there, Sebastian checks out the room where he last spotted Kirith, and finds a naked man who looks exactly like the man- at-arms in the bar. Sebastian frees the man and pays him to help set Jove up when he emerges. Garth is surprised when a strange looking man answers his trump call, but he and Jove each reveal their true identities. Jove asks Garth to pull him through so he can avoid Sebastian, and updates Garth on what's been happening while Garth was imprisoned. Garth tells Jove that Random was responsible for his failure to obtain permission to court Xed. After waiting awhile for Jove to emerge, Sebastian uses his trump to spy on him. Jove notices this but Oliver doesn't, adding to Sebastian's suspicions. Jove wants to kill a shadow of himself and offer it to Waldhiem in an effort to get Waldhiem to stop sending men after him. Oliver doesn't think much of this idea, and suggests that since Jove intends for Waldhiem to know that the body is merely a shadow, that he should ask Waldhiem if he's willing to go along with it first. While they are arguing about his, Coll trumps Jove, who pulls him through, much to Oliver's annoyance. Jove presents his idea to Coll. Coll agrees that Waldhiem should be informed first. During the course of the conversation, Coll asks Oliver why is riding through shadow instead of transporting himself to his destination using the Pattern. Oliver contends that he lost his more advanced Pattern abilities while on the expedition to rescue Dierdre in undershadow. Coll does not seem very convinced, but offers to relay Jove's message to Waldhiem. He takes Waldhiem's trump and leaves. Sebastian trumps Oliver and asks for his help in investigating a problem with his shadow. Oliver says that he is busy, but will help later. Jove trumps Sebastian and asks him to join the Jove fan club. Oliver keeps heading for his shadow. Jove begins to annoy Oliver more and more. Eventually, he tells Jove to trump Coll and go through to him, since Oliver doesn't want to have anything to do with Jove's latest brainstorm. Jove trumps Coll, who asks to be brought through to Jove instead. After some arguing, where Oliver keeps insisting that Jove go through to Coll, and Coll keeps insisting that he be brought through to Jove, Jove pulls Coll through. Completely fed up with Jove, Oliver starts to Hellride away, but is pursued by Coll. Suddenly, armed men appear, and Oliver and Jove are pulled off of their horses by Logrus tendrils. Oliver uses one of his trumps to break free of the tendril, but is unable to make it back to his horse before he is surrounded by several men on horseback. As he tries to fight them off, Coll hits him with a lighting spell, injuring him severely and knocking him unconscious. Coll orders the rest of his men to beat Jove senseless. As they start in on Jove, Jove glares at Coll and says "I trusted you." To which Coll replies, "If it's any consolation, Coll trusted you too." Jove frantically shifts to his primal form in an effort to escape, but he is held by another Logrus tendril. And on this ominous note, the session ended.
