Corwin's 'reign' was soon troubled by the occurrence of a mysterious Black Road, running from Amber out into Shadow. This turned out to be the handiwork of Brand, who had damaged the Pattern by spilling Alastair's blood on it. The forces of Chaos attacked via this Road, and Corwin and Gérard devoted themselves to Amber's defense. This left their nieces and nephews to counter Brand, who had become nigh-omnipotent.
After much ado, Lilith and Colin managed to repair the Pattern. Brand was killed by Alastair, with help from a couple of mysterious allies. The family tree was further trimmed as Gabriel killed Julian in a duel, and Caine was allegedly slain by Farad.
Corwin's daughter, Lilith, became Regent, supported by Gérard, Colin, Rasa, and Gabriel. She soon had her hands full with Mara and Sebastian, two powerful Chaos Lords who set their sights on Amber. Gabriel managed to kill Mara, a feat made possible by Farad and several others. Sebastian, who claims to be Alastair's son, used his bizarre powers to escape a similar fate.
Bonaparte, another Chaos Lord claiming to be Caine's son, arrived in Amber and introduced himself to the family. They made such a bad impression that Bonaparte decided to conquer Amber. He was assisted in this by a mysterious ally, believed by some to be his not-so-dead father. Bonaparte's invasion met great success, until Farad and Gabriel managed to destroy most of his forces. Gabriel killed Bonaparte in a duel (notice a pattern yet?).
Lilith's reign is now troubled by her Aunts and Uncles, who insist on attacking or annoying her at every opportunity. Colin, Gabriel and Rasa provide somewhat erratic support while Alastair, Sean and Duncan provide erratic opposition.
Recently, House Hadyn of Chaos attempted to attack Amber and was stopped at the Golden Circle. Paris has returned, although his sanity is still absent. Dmitri, a newcomer with possible Amber heritage, has arrived and involved himself in the family intrigues.
